A fake poster emerged in WhatsApp and Facebook pages claiming police were pursuing Steven Miringu Njoroge for distribution of poisonous food in Kiambu. The poster had the image Dagoretti Youth leader Alex Miringu as shown below with police allegedly placing a bounty of Ksh 200000 on him.
The image emerged barely a week after it was reported in leading Kenyan newspapers that at least 20 people were taken ill after consuming suspected poisoned foodstuff donated by unknown people in Gikambura, Kikuyu Constituency. The food aid consisted of maize flour, sugar and green peas packaged in red non-woven bags branded the names of Deputy President William Ruto and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.
This came after DP Ruto, accompanied by the area MP, distributed food in red bags that were branded William Ruto Foundation and Kimani Ichungwah.
Alex Miringu spoke with Mtaani Radio fact check desk that he has been contacted by the police or investigating officer on the matter. Despite the poster bearing his image the name indicated was of a different person.
Mtaani Radio has looked into the claim that Alex Miringu was not responsible for the distribution of poisonous food in Kiambu.
