The International Youth Day 2020 was celebrated on Wednesday, with the theme of this year being “Youth Engagement for Global Action. ‘‘This day aims at inspiring the youth and involving them in the building of nations. In this way, it seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes. It also aims at drawing lessons on how the representation and engagement of the youth in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

This day came into being in 1999 after the General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.
