Kakamega Senator, Cleophas Malala, who was arrested on Monday morning at his Nairobi home by DCI officers and transferred to Mumias police station where he spent the night, has been set free after DPP Noordin Haji dropped all charges against him. According to the report issued by the senator’s lawyer, Nelson Havi, the senator was arrested for allegedly violating Covid-19 rules and measures.
Moments before his release, demonstrations had started in Mumias with the police trying to disperse the protesters using teargas. The youths demanded for the freedom of Senator Malala who was set to be arraigned in court. All the main roads were also blocked, limiting travel for residents.
