Jumia is an online market place for electronics and fashion, among others in Africa. The company is also a logistics service, which enables the shipment and delivery of packages from sellers to consumers, and a payment service, which facilitates transactions among participants active and Jumia’s platform in selected markets.
Jumia usually has an offer termed as black friday, where it sells most of its products at a giveaway price.
Earlier this week,a message was sent to several people and WhatsApp groups claiming to be from the company. The message was urging people to click on a provided link which would direct them to a spin and win site. One was expected to spin to get a chance to win a price, after which they were to share the message to a number of WhatsApp users and groups whithin a limited time span, before they could claim the reward.
However,Mtaani Radio fact check team got to know that this was not true.Although Black Friday is a legit offer at Jumia, the spin and win promo is not true. The website that one is directed to after clicking on the link provided on the message is even fake.
