The Independent Electoral and boundaries commission IEBC has cleared UDA and Kenya Kwanza Presidential aspirant and running mate to be candidates in the August 9th general election. IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati made the announcement on Saturday at the Bomas of Kenya after Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua submitted their documents to the commission.
“The application of William Ruto and running mate to participate in the August presidential election is approved. I will now present you with a certificate of registration,” Chebukati announced amid cheers from his supporters and Kenya Kwanza leaders who accompanied him to Bomas of Kenya.
Ruto had held a brief meeting at his Karen residence, before proceeding to Bomas.
Earlier, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance top brass was all smiles as Ruto, presented himself at the Bomas of Kenya to seek clearance to run in the August 9 polls.
Ready to receive him at Bomas was ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, UDA secretary general Veronica Maina, among others.
