The by-election for Bungoma’s senatorial seat will now take place on December 8, 2022, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

This is in light of Moses Wetangula’s appointment as National Assembly speaker on September 8, 2022, which left the seat vacant.

In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati added that five other by-elections for Ololmasani, Kyome/Thaana, Utawala, Mumias North and South Gem Wards in Narok, Kitui, Nairobi City, Kakamega, and Siaya County Assemblies respectively will take place on the same date.

The commission also stated that all political parties planning to run in the by-elections must submit the names of their candidates by Thursday October 13.
