FAKE: These tweets attributed to former Nyeri MP Ngunjiri Wambugu are from an imposter account

Ngunjiri has distanced himself from the tweets.

A screengrab posted on Facebook with tweets purportedly made by former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu is FAKE.

The screengrab shared online on November 12, 2022 has two tweets; all targeted towards former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The first tweet calls for Raila’s retirement, while the second criticises him for nominating his daughter Winnie Odinga to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The account that posted the tweets uses the name Hon Ngunjiri Wambugu, CBS, MP and ‘@ngunjiriwambug’.

It has over 70,000 followers, follows 769 accounts and has made over 1,500 tweets.

But is the account authentic? Are the tweets really from the former MP?

We did a keyword search on Twitter and established that Ngunjiri’s legitimate account is ‘@ngunjiriwambugu’ and has over 184,000 followers.

Browsing through the legitimate account, we found a post distancing the former MP from the tweets we are debunking.

“These guys need to stop with these fake accounts. When I have something to say, I always say it; without help. Saa hii nauza chai na mandazi pale Nyeri Town. (At the moment I’m selling tea and mandazi in Nyeri Town. Siasa (Politics) is for later,” he tweeted.
