FALSE: Citizen TV did not refer to Raila as Bondo Resident

By Fridah Okachi

In the original graphic, Citizen TV does not refer to Raila as Mkaazi, Bondo.

A screengrab of a Citizen TV graphic shared on Twitter referring to the former Prime Minister as ‘Mkaazi Bondo’ which loosely translates to ‘Bondo resident” is fabricated.

Accompanying the photo was a caption reading: “Citizen tv hizi ni gani Sasa heri hawangeandika jina bas. (Citizen TV and what is? Well you shouldn’t have written the name then).

The screengrab created the impression that Citizen TV had reduced the veteran politician to a Bondo resident.
Raila who hails from Bondo in Saiya County, is a senior politician in the country and has served in several high profile positions including; Member of Parliament for Lang’ata, Minister for Roads and Prime Minister among others.

Currently, he serves as the party leader of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.

We checked Citizen TV’s verified Facebook and Twitter pages where it shares all its news items, but there was no such graphic.

Instead, we found a video shared on its Twitter page on November 3, 2022, capturing a presser by Odinga.

In the video, Citizen TV did not refer to Raila as Mkaazi, Bondo as alleged in the claim we are debunking.

Additionally, Philip Mwaniki, the Digital Editor at Royal Media Services (RMS) while speaking to PesaCheck, disowned the graphic and termed it fake.

During the presser, Odinga urged the government to take action and curb cases of extrajudicial killings in the country.
