An article shared on Facebook claiming that Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki has called out President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, for “victimising” former DCI boss George Kinoti is FALSE.
The article shared online on November 16, 2022 had a caption that reads: “It was wrong for RUTO and GACHAGUA to victimize KINOTI – Interior CS KITHURE KINDIKI now insinuates as things seem to be getting out of hand.”
Accompanying the post is a website link where one can read the full article.
In the article, the publication claims Prof Kindiki said under his leadership, the police will not face victimisation like was done to Kinoti by the current government.
Kinoti who was appointed DCI boss in January 2018, resigned after President Ruto and Gachagua’s win was upheld by the Supreme Court.
To debunk the claim, Mtaani radio performed a keyword search on YouTube and got the full press conference made by CS Kindiki on the date the article under investigation was published.
We reviewed the CS’s entire press statement and established that he did not make the remarks reported in the article.
In his address, the CS assured the police service that the government will work with them to ensure they discharge their duties in accordance with the law.
‘’I want to assure our officers who are in charge of various formations related to internal security, the government will support you, facilitate you, and make sure that as you perform this gallant, sometimes risky service to the nation, you will not be victimized,’’ the CS said in part.
We also performed a keyword search and established that no credible media reported any such story.
Our search yielded fact-checks conducted by The Star and Africa Check which also found the story to be false.
