FAKE: Tuko.co.ke did not publish this digital card with a quote attributed to Jeremiah Kioni

By Fridah Okachi

This digital card shared on Twitter with Tuko.co.ke branding and bearing a quote attributed to Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni is Fake.

The digital card had a quote claiming that Kioni accused President William Ruto of rigging the August 2022 presidential election.

Posted online on 24 January 2023, the card was accompanied by a caption reading “Here is how H.E.Ruto won…”

To confirm whether the card is authentic, we checked Tuko’;s verified Facebook and Twitter pages but there was no such card.

However, Mtaani Radio found this statement distancing the organisation from the card we are investigating.

“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This information and template doesn’t originate from us. All authentic and verified news stories and quotes from http://TUKO.co.ke are published on our social media pages. Let’s fight fake news. Verify before you share,” Tuko posted.

This fact check was published by Mtaani Radio with support from Code for Africa’s PesaCheck and African Fact-CheckingAlliance.
