This viral photo of police vehicles posted on Twitter, with a caption claiming that it was taken on the night of 8 February 2023 at the Nairobi residence of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is FALSE.

The picture was posted online following reports of an alleged police operation at the home of the former CS.
However, investigative authorities including the National Police Service distanced itself from the purported night raid.

Mtaani Radio did a reverse search on the photo and discovered that it was first published in September 2020 by the Standard.

According to a story published in the Standard, the photo was taken as police descended on Kapsaret MP Oscar’s Sudi’s home in Uasin Gishu County.

The image was also published by KTN News TV, with its caption indicating that it was taken by Peter Ochieng.
