Police in Magarini, Kilifi County have exhumed an additional 20 bodies from the 800-acre Shakahola land, bringing the total number of exhumed bodies to 67. The recent exhumation included a grave with six bodies. The police investigation into the cult led by pastor Paul Mackenzie continues to intensify.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohammed visited the area to oversee the exhumation of the bodies. Two teams are currently on the ground; one is exhuming bodies while the other is searching the forest for potential survivors.

“Two teams are on the ground, one exhuming the bodies as another team combs the forest to try and rescue more people,” said Koome.

According to Koome, 29 people have been rescued so far, and the police are investigating the ownership of the land. Over the weekend, 39 bodies were exhumed, with seven bodies on Friday, 14 on Saturday, and 18 on Sunday.
