A group of religious leaders have criticized the government’s efforts to regulate churches, claiming that it is an attempt to deflect attention from its failure to effectively address crimes.

The leaders have also raised questions about how controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie was able to operate for more than two decades.

They are calling for a thorough investigation and prosecution of any state officers who may have facilitated Mackenzie’s activities.
