President William Ruto has appointed former Sports CS Rashid Echesa as the chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board. The appointment was part of the recent appointments made by President Ruto. Echesa’s term will last for three years, starting from May 19, 2023.
The gazette notice, dated May 18, states that President Ruto, in his capacity as the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appointed Echesa to the position. This appointment resulted in the revocation of the previous appointment of L. Arch. Robert M. Kariuki, who was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Rashid Echesa has been a prominent ally of President Ruto, and his new role is seen as a significant development in his political career. Additionally, Environment CS Soipan Tuya appointed Elisha Busienei and Michael Waititu Maina as members of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board. They will also serve for a period of three years, starting from May 19, 2023.
Echesa’s previous tenure as the Sports CS came to an end in March 2019 when he was fired by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He was subsequently replaced by Amb. Amina Mohamed.
