FAKE: This Facebook account isn’t of National Police Service spokesperson Resila Onyango

By Evans Kibe

This Facebook account mimicking National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson Resila Onyango and purporting to issue statements in her name is FAKE.

The account’s bio does not indicate how many followers it has, however, it states that the owner works at Vigilance house which is NPS’ headquarters.

The account has made posts such as this climbing to address promotions in the police service.

To ascertain the page’s authenticity, Mtaani Radio checked NPS’ official Twitter account and Facebook page, where it posts updates about the service, but there was no such account.

On 1 July 2023, the police service released a statement disowning the account.

“We wish to caution the general public against interacting with the multiple fake accounts purporting to belong to the National Police Service Spokesperson, Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango, PhD, HSC… The existing accounts are maintained by unscrupulous imposters with criminal intent to defraud unsuspecting persons,” NPS said.

The agency also confirmed that the spokesperson does not operate any social media accounts, adding that all communications from her office are made on the official NPS pages.
