This video shared on Twitter claiming to show Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino being arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on 19 July 2023 is FALSE.

The video that has since gone viral was posted shortly after the MP claimed that he had been arrested at the airport after landing from Mombasa.

To verify the claim, Mtaani radio fact-checking desk performed a keyword search and came across a Citizen Digital article that reported the video to be false.

In the article, Citizen attached a similar video confirming that the arrest was done on 27 September 2017 and not July 2023 as alleged.

The video was also shared by the MP on his verified Facebook page on the same date.

The incident happened at the Milimani Law Courts where Babu Owino was re-arrested shortly after being granted bail in a case where he was charged with subversion and offensive conduct.
