Babu Owino Released On Bail

By Kamadi Amata

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has been released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 in a case where, together with six other persons, he is charged over the opposition-led anti-government protests.

Milimani chief magistrate Lukas Onyina in his ruling on Friday morning noted that the charge against the accused persons is punishable upon conviction for imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years.

Onyina added that one of the reasons advanced by the prosecution was that the witnesses were most likely to interfere with witnesses.

The court also observed that the prosecution did not establish which of the accused persons would interfere with investigations into the case.

Owino together with Calvina Okoth Otieno alias Gaucho, Tom Ondongo Ong’udi, Michael Otieno Omondi, Pascal Ouma, Kevin Wambo and Willys Owino Baraka were on Wednesday charged with conspiracy to commit subversive activities.

They all denied the charges.

“A holistic look at the affidavit does not disclose compelling reasons to deny the accused persons bond. Each of the accused persons is granted a bond of Sh200,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000,” the magistrate ruled.

However POLICE RE-ARREST Babu Owino outside Milimani Law Courts before his lawyers and family processed his cash bail.
