This photo on Facebook allegedly showing ex-Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho dressed in a UDA party T-shirt is ALTERED.
The photo features Joho alongside Taufiq Balala, Mombasa County Executive Committee member in charge of Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works.
Accompanying the image is a text that reads, “Good News!! Former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has officially ditched Raila’s ODM Party and joined the ruling UDA Party.”
Joho had expressed interest in contesting Kenya’s presidency in the 2022 general election, but shelved his bid in favor of Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga.
To confirm the authenticity of the photo, Mtaani Radio performed a Google reverse image search and established that the original photo does not depict
Joho wearing a UDA branded T-shirt.
The authentic photo was shared by Joho on his verified Instagram account on 2 July 2023.
A keyword search on Joho joining the UDA party did not yield any credible results.
PesaCheck, AfricaCheck and Kenyans.co.ke also investigated the photo and found it to be doctored.
