This photo posted on Facebook allegedly showing a section of Kenya’s Kinale forest days after the government lifted the logging ban is FALSE.
“Kinale forest within days of lifting the timber logging. Kudos Tugege for job well done,” reads the post.
The photo was shared two weeks after President William Ruto lifted the logging ban that had been in effect from February 2018.
To confirm the photo’s authenticity, Mtaani Radio performed a Google Reverse image search and established that the image was taken in Mau Forest.
The photo was initially published by Nation Africa in August 2015. It also appeared in other publications such as Business Daily.
The photo was used to show a section of Mau Forest that had been destroyed through logging.
