FALSE: This video isn’t of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro castigating Kenya Kwanza government over increased fuel prices

By Bonface Onsongo

The video is of the MP criticising former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

This video shared on Tiktok claiming that Ndindi Nyoro has castigated the Kenya Kwanza government over increased fuel prices in the country is FALSE.

The video is accompanied  by a text reading “Ndindi Nyoro amruka ruto baada ya mafuta kuongezeka (Ndindi Nyoro turns against Ruto after an increase in fuel prices)”

The video was posted on 15 September 2023 after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced new fuel prices in the country.

Mtaani radio fact checking desk did a YouTube search for the keywords “Ndindi Nyoro gives government ultimatum over the cost of living” and established that the video was taken in 2021.

A full version of the video was uploaded on YouTube on 17 September 2021 by Kenya Digital News with the title, “No-nonsense MP Ndindi Nyoro gives Uhuru 24 hours to reduce fuel prices.”

In the original video, Nyoro hits out at ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta and not the Kenya Kwanza administration led by Ruto.

A keyword search on Google led us to debunks by PesaCheck and iVerify, confirming that the video is not recent.

Mtaani Radio examined a video shared on Tiktok claiming that Ndindi Nyoro has castigated the Kenya Kwanza government over increased fuel prices and found it to be FALSE.

This fact-check was published by Mtaani Radio with technical support from Code for Africa’s PesaCheck newsdesk through the African Fact-Checking Alliance.
