According to the shared list, Cleophas Malala is replaced by Walter Mukinginyi Trenk as UDA Secretary General. Additionally, Hassan Omar is no longer the Vice Chairperson, and the position is now held jointly by Simon Kachapin, Danson Mungatana, and Stephen Ole Ntutu, also overseeing policy and strategy, operations, and programs, respectively.
Remaining unchanged in their roles within the UDA party executive leadership are President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Cecily Mbarire, and Japheth Nyakundi, who respectively serve as Party Leader, Deputy Party Leader, Chairperson, and Treasurer, as per both the list in question and the official UDA website.
A total of 13 names on the list we are debunking have not been listed as part of the UDA leadership on the party’s website.
To authenticate the list’s validity, we checked the UDA official social media platforms; X (formerly Twitter) account and Facebook page but did not find any mention of such a list.
Part of the latest information on the website indicates that applications for grassroots elections are now open, with the deadline set for 2 November 2023. The grassroots polls are scheduled for 9 December 2023, and party members will elect officials using a digital voting system.
PesaCheck contacted the current UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala who termed the list as “propaganda”.
“All official party communication is done through the verified party pages. Anything else is propaganda,” Malala responded.
According to the UDA’s official social media accounts platforms, Malala and Omar still hold their positions as the party’s Secretary General and Vice Chairperson, respectively. They have been conducting party business as usual.
PesaCheck has looked into a notice claiming to show a list of the new United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Executive Council lineup and found it to be FAKE.
