The post originated from a parody account.
This screen grab of an X (formerly Twitter) post purportedly by Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza is FAKE.
The post has an image of Meru Senator Murungi Kathuri.
“This is another person who was behind my troubles and impeachment trial! I defeated all the odds!” the post reads.
The post was shared on 12 November 2023, barely a week after Mwangaza survived impeachment.
But is the X post authentic?
We searched for Mwangaza on X and discovered that several accounts are using the governor’s name, but none is verified.
A search for the statement on the post established that it emanated from a parody account dubbed “Gov Kawira Mwangaza”.
We schemed through Mwangaza’s verified Facebook page and found a post on 12 November 2023 disowning the X post we are debunking.
“This is not my X (tweeter) [sic] account. Enemies are out to malign me and bring disunity among us Meru leaders. I did not post this. I respect each and every Meru Leader,” Mwangaza said.
PesaCheck examined a screen grab of an X post purportedly by Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza and found it to be FAKE.
