Justice Grace Nzioka has explained why the judgement date of former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe and Jowie Irungu in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani had to be pushed to Friday.
The date for the judgement had initially been set for March 15.
“This judgment was supposed to be delivered 15th of March this year, but in the course of the week I discovered that I had a free Friday which is today because the matters that I was supposed to hear today were not going to take off,” Justice Nzioka said.
She said the last time she was in court the judgement was ready it was only that one of the accused persons was indisposed.
“And I had also indicated that I will be proceeding on leave with the effect from the 12th which will be on Monday for one month so I though in the interest of justice, to bring this judgment forward and deliver it today,” she said.
Jowie is the first accused person in the murder trial of Monica.
He was charged alongside Jacque Maribe in 2018.
Monica’s body was found at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.
The prosecution called 35 witnesses who testified against the two.
