In a significant move aimed at enhancing access to justice, the Dagoretti Law Courts were officially opened under the theme “Expanding the Doorways of Justice.” The establishment of the court marks a milestone for residents of Muthangari, Riruta, Kangemi, and Dagoretti, providing them with a more accessible judicial system.
Key Features and Services:
Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Court:
A dedicated Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) court will be part of the Dagoretti Law Courts. This will streamline the handling of such sensitive cases, ensuring justice for survivors of violence and abuse.
Expanded Jurisdiction:
The court will serve residents in the larger Dagoretti area, covering Muthangari, Riruta, Kangemi, and other neighboring regions. This will greatly reduce the distance and costs involved in accessing justice for these communities.
Land Succession and Land Matters:
A formal request was made for the inclusion of land succession cases and land disputes within the court’s jurisdiction. As land issues are common in the region, this addition would provide a much-needed legal avenue for resolving these conflicts.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR):
The court will also handle Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) cases. ADR offers a less adversarial and often quicker means of resolving disputes, which is particularly useful for community members seeking amicable solutions to their conflicts.
Children’s Court:
Children’s cases will also be heard at the Dagoretti Law Courts. This ensures that the rights and welfare of children are safeguarded within the community, with dedicated attention given to family and child-related legal issues.
