KABIRIA, Dagoretti, Nairobi -A somber mood has engulfed the Kwa Maji area along Kirui Road after three men died while attempting to unblock a sewer manhole.
The victims have been identified as Gideon Kirui Lemau, Colooney Lemau, and a third man popularly known as Vaite. According to witnesses, the tragedy began when Gideon Kirui accidentally fell into the manhole. In a desperate bid to save him, Colooney and Vaite jumped in after him but were quickly overwhelmed by toxic fumes and a lack of oxygen.
Area MCA Eric Kiogora led emergency efforts to retrieve the men, who were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital. Unfortunately, they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Disturbing reports indicate that some of the victims were members of the same family, compounding the grief for the local community. Local leaders and residents have since gathered at the scene to offer their condolences to the bereaved families.
