Women’s Peace Cup Unites Dagoretti North Communities Through Sports and Empowerment

A successful two-day Mother’s Day Women Peace Cup 2026, Dagoretti North Edition, was held at Gatina Grounds. The tournament brought together women’s football teams from Kilimani, Kawangware, Gatina, Kileleshwa, Kabiro, and GMSF Women FC. The event, which kicked off on Saturday and concluded with finals on Sunday, was organized to honour mothers while promoting peace, unity, and collaboration through sports.

The event was organized by the Gakami Mustard Seed Foundation in partnership with the Community Relations Foundation and the office of Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi. It provided a platform for women to showcase their talent while strengthening community ties and advancing grassroots empowerment.

Organizers emphasized that the initiative was not only about football, but also about fostering inclusion, social cohesion, and celebrating the important role women play in society. The tournament reflected the growing use of sports as a tool for positive community transformation.

Gatina emerged as champions after an impressive performance, scoring four goals in the final match. All participating teams received medals, prizes, and cash rewards in recognition of their efforts.

The area MP’s office awarded KSh 100,000 to the winners, KSh 80,000 to the runners-up, KSh 70,000 to the third-placed team, and KSh 50,000 each to the fourth and fifth-placed teams as appreciation for their participation.

The event attracted local leaders, residents, women’s groups, and development partners, who commended the initiative for empowering women through sports.

Organizers maintained that the tournament remained strictly focused on women empowerment and community unity, with no political speeches allowed, ensuring the spotlight stayed on the players and the spirit of the competition.
