Former Kirinyaga Senator and veteran educationist Daniel Karaba has passed away.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru announced his demise on Monday, mourning the veteran politician as a dedicated public servant and a distinguished son of the county.
“Mwalimu Karaba built a remarkable career as a teacher, principal, and education leader before serving as a two-term Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central and later as Senator,” Governor Waiguru stated.
She further eulogized him as a leader whose life was “defined by service, humility, and a deep commitment to education and leadership.”
Before venturing into elective politics, Karaba had a stellar career in the education sector. He served as a teacher and rose through the ranks to become a school principal and an influential education leader.
He officially left his teaching job at Highway Secondary School in 2002 to join national politics, successfully capturing the Kirinyaga Central parliamentary seat in 2003.
In 2013, Karaba made history by being elected as the first Senator of Kirinyaga County under the devolved government system. He served in the Senate for one term before losing the seat to Charles Kibiru in the 2017 General Elections.
Leaders and residents across the county have continued to send their messages of condolence, remembering Karaba for his immense contributions to both the education sector and the political landscape of Kirinyaga.
